Ë®¹ûÅÉ and Universal Foundation sign memorandum of agreement for 8th batch of Discover Hospitality programme
2 min read

Ë®¹ûÅÉ has signed a Memorandum of Agreement with Universal Foundation to launch the eighth batch of the Discover Hospitality programme, continuing a partnership that has steadily expanded pathways into the Maldivian tourism and hospitality sector for young professionals across the country.

The agreement also encompasses a dedicated culinary arts batch, broadening the programme's scope beyond its original hospitality focus. Together, the two tracks reflect an evolving response to industry demand, offering structured entry points into careers that span front-of-house operations, guest services, and professional kitchen environments. For a country whose economic identity is so closely tied to tourism, initiatives that prepare citizens for meaningful roles within the sector carry significance well beyond the individual participants they serve.

What has distinguished Discover Hospitality since its inception is a model that prioritises practical, industry-embedded learning. Rather than confining training to a purely academic setting, the programme connects participants with real-world exposure, equipping them with professional skills and confidence that are difficult to develop through conventional classroom instruction alone. This approach reflects a broader shift in vocational education, one that recognises the gap between qualification and readiness and seeks to close it through structured collaboration between educational institutions and industry partners.

Eight batches into the programme, the partnership between Ë®¹ûÅÉ and Universal Resorts offers a useful case study in how the private sector and higher education can work together to address workforce development at a national level. The consistency of the collaboration, renewed across successive cohorts, suggests a model that is delivering value to both parties and, more importantly, to the young Maldivians it is designed to serve. As the programme continues to grow in both scale and scope, it reinforces the principle that education is most effective when it is connected directly to opportunity.
